The polygrapher best-seller Aguinis has published a new novel about the first years of the cuban revolution and its disenchants. In this interview he stands that, although the revolution became a dictatorship, that doesn’t illegitimates its initial steps he was attracted to.

El polígrafo best-seller Aguinis ha publicado una nueva novela acerca de los primeros años de la revolución cubana y sus desencantos. En esta entrevista sostiene que, pese a tornarse una dictadura, eso no deslegitima sus pasos iniciales hacia los cuales él se sintió atraído.

Sometimes have to draw something I’m not in the mood to. In brief: Ciapuscio writes about the “paranoia” signals in the Kirchner’s speeches and proposes to turn back to the old institution of ostracism.
Not very original as too many public men in this country where ostracized in fact after defeated along the our history. Hope to read something more creative next time.

A veces tengo que dibujar algo para lo que no tengo ganas. Brevemente: Ciapuscio escribe sobre las señales de “paranoia” en los discursos de los Kirchner y propone volver a la vieja institución del ostracismo.
No muy orginal puesto que muchos hombres públicos de este país a lo largo de nuestra historia fueron exiliados de hecho tras ser derrotados. Espero leer algo más creativo la próxima vez.

Rozanski is a judge with a high profile. Last year condemned the former “comisario” (sheriff) Etchecolaz for his part on tortures during the last Dictatorship. Previously was a judge for minors in Bariloche (Río Negro province) known for his innovative approach in parental abuse cases. In this interview he rejects the so called Parental Alienation Syndrome (PAS) as a non scientific made-up to discharge the defendant as a victim of a child’s fabulation. He pushed for a procedure code for the child not to be the object of a hostile questioning by the judges.

Rozanski es un juez con alto perfil. El año pasado condenó al ex-comisario Etchecolaz por su participación en torturas durante la última Dictadura. Previamente fue juez de menores en Bariloche (provincia de Río Negro), conocido por su enfoque renovador en casos de abuso parental. En esta entrevista rechaza el así llamado Sindrome de Alienación Parental (SAP), un “engendro” no científico usado para disculpar al acusado como si fuera víctima de una fabulación infantil. Él presionó por el cambio del código de procedimientos para que el niño no pueda ser objeto de un interrogatorio hostil por parte de los jueces.

Former bishop with a “3th World priests” flavor, Lugo entered politics ahead of a wide and contradictory coalition to put an end to secular “colorados” rule. Oppenheimer thinks that his chances of a stable administration are jeopardized by a deep rooted corruption and lack of control by the State in many areas.
His main concern, of course, is the net of funds for islamic terrorism. But he says nothing of the activity of many counter-terrorism American military agents with granted freedom of movement by Lugo’s predecessors in charge.

El ex-obispo con un aire a “sacerdotes para el 3er Mundo” ingresó a la política al frente de una amplia y contradictoria coalición para terminar con el gobierno secular de los “colorados”. Oppenheimer piensa que sus posibilidades de gobierno estable están amenazadas por la enraizada corrupción y la falta de control estatal en muchas áreas.
Por supuesto, su preocupación principal son las redes de recolección de fondos para el terrorismo islámico. Pero no dice nada de la actividad de numerosos agentes norteamericanos de contra-terrorismo que han obtenido libertad de movimientos por parte de los predecesores de Lugo en el cargo.

For once Oppenheimer has found something worst than Chavez and his followers: its the relative lowering rate of technological advances in Latin America. He thinks that one of the reasons for this are the commodities high prices and I -for once too- may agree with him.

Por una vez Oppenheimer encontró algo peor que Chávez y sus seguidores: el retraso relativo del avance tecnológico en Latinoamérica. Él piensa que una de las razones de esto son los altos precios de los commodities y -por una vez, también- puedo estar de acuerdo con él.

I was requested to do an illo for an article about Eco’s latest essay on “The history of ugliness”. They wanted the writer together with Nathan Pinzon, a classic era films Argentinean actor. In the end, the actor get no mention and the illo wasn’t published. No comment.

Se me pidió una ilustración para un artículo acerca del último ensayo de Eco sobre “La historia de la fealdad”. Querían al escritor junto a Nathan Pinzón, actor argentino de films clásicos. Al final el actor no fue mencionado y el dibujo no salió publicado. Sin comentarios.

César Cigliutti and Marcelo Suntheim are president and chairman of CHA (Argentine Homosexual Community). They get married in Spain and seek to be recognized now by the local laws. In this interview they tell their own personal story and evaluate the present actitudes of the society towards gays. While there’s an increasing acceptance of gay members into regular families they have to struggle with many provincial outdated legislations. They seek to change “tolerance” (with its diminishing implications) into a more plenty “acceptance” trough wide and open information made accessible to general public.

César Cigliutti y Marcelo Suntheim son presidente y secretario de la CHA (Comunidad Homosexual Argentina) respectivamente. Se casaron en España y ahora buscan ser reconocidos por la legislación local. En esta entrevista cuentan su historia personal y evalúan las actitudes actuales de la sociedad hacia los gays. Mientras que existe una creciente aceptación de los miembros gay en las familias comunes, todavía tienen que luchar con legislaciones atrasadas en muchas provincias. Quieren cambiar la “tolerancia” (con sus implicaciones disminuyentes) por una más completa “aceptación” a través de hacer accecible una amplia y abierta información al público general.

Mario Vargas Llosa was in Argentina two weeks ago presiding over a Symposium on Freedom at Rosario (Santa Fe) where Ernesto “Che” Guevara was born. There gathered Jose Maria Aznar, Vicente Fox, Roger Noriega and other “liberal” (I prefer to call them “rightists”) politicians, writers and intellectuals. Their bus run by chance into a demonstration near “Che”s monument and got stoned and painted. In this interview he speaks about freedom, the American system (”it works”), why he likes Obama and dislikes “populist” Chavez. The usual stuff.
Me, I’m grateful to Vargas Llosa for “Conversation in the Cathedral” and don’t pay attention to his simplistic political stands.

Mario Vargas Llosa estuvo en la Argentina hace dos semanas presidiendo un Simposio sobre La Libertad en Rosario (Santa Fé) donde nació Ernesto “Che”Guevara. Aí se congregaron José maría Aznar, Vicente Fox, Roger Noriega y otros políticos, escritores e intelectuales “liberales” (yo prefiero llamarlos “derechistas”). Su ómnibus se topó por casualidad con una manifestación cerca del monumento al “Che” y resultó apedreado y pintado. En esta entrevista habla acerca de la libertad, el Sistema Americano (”funciona”), por qué le gusta Obama y le disgusta el “populista” Chávez. Lo de costumbre.
Yo…le estoy agradecido a Vargas Llosa por “Conversación en la Catedral” y no le presto atención a sus simplistas posiciones políticas.

It’s not unusual to read comparisons between “populist” Argentina and “meticulous” Chili, forgetting that the latter kept alive many traits inherited from Pinochet dictatorship. In this interview two former leaders of the massive students protest two years ago, tells the story of the education laws promulgated by the military they sought to abolish. Bachelet’s government first repressed and then co-opted many student leaders to end with minor reforms. So, they say, money for education goes to private owners (so called “supportes”) with many corruption cases (inflated numbers) and university examination fees are out of reach for not rich students.
Sudents are so called “penguins” by their uniforms; so I thought of Hitchcock’s “Birds” for the illo.

No es infrecuente leer comparaciones entre la “populista” Argentina y el “prolijo” Chile, olvidando que éste conserva muchos rasgos heredados de la dictadura de Pinochet. En esta entrevista dos ex dirigentes de las protestas masivas de estudiantes dos años atrás, cuentan la historia de las leyes de educación promulgadas por los militares que ellos querían abolir. El gobierno de Bachelet primero reprimió y luego cooptó a muchos líderes estudiantiles, para finalizar con reformas menores. De modo que, dicen, el dinero para educación sigue yendo a manos de los propietarios privados (llamados “sostenedores”) con muchos casos de corrupción (números inflados) y los costos de exámenes en las universidades están fuera del alcance de los estudiantes no ricos.
Los estudiantes son llamados “pingüinos”) por sus uniformes; así que pensé en “Los pájaros” de Hitchcock para la ilustración.
