Gloria Mundi

Drawn for an article (written in March) dealing with the hysterical voices (in frames) against migrants arriving from muslim countries into Europe. Prestigious Spanish writer Juan Goytisolo (who resides in Morocco) has another view. He proposes (the rich Westerners) to help those countries to improve its population standards of living in the first place. Now, there is a problem: if poor peoples start to rise their standards, they will compete for energy resources with the rich; so, what’s the point? On the other hand, the “War on Terror” brings lots of funds (and jobs) to the Defence and Spy industries helping our own economies. The choice is clear, isn’t it?

Dibujado para un artículo (escrito en Marzo) sobre las voces histéricas (en recuadro) alzadas contra el arribo a Europa de inmigrantes de los países musulmanes. El prestigioso escritor Juan Goytisolo (quien reside en Marruecos) tiene otra visión. Él propone (a los ricos occidentales) empezar por ayudar a mejorar el estandard de vida de los pueblos de esos países. Pero hay un problema: si la gente pobre mejora su estandard va a competir con los ricos por los recursos energéticos; así que ¿qué sentido tendría?. Por otra parte, la “Guerra contra el Terror” atrae muchos fondos (y puestos de trabajo) a las industrias de Defensa y Espionaje, ayudando a la economía propia. La elección es clara, ¿no?

I didn’t read his works as a pioneer of the “New Journalism” but I liked the issues rised in The Bonfire of the Vanities (the movie). From his answers in this interview I think there must be a self-imposed limit to the “epater le bourgeoise” gesture. I’m against the abuses of the Politically Correctness too; but to mock Noam Chomsky’s political stands (as pseudo-intellectual) and sustain that W’s intelligence and culture equals that of The New York Review of Books’ editor is too much.

No leí sus trabajos como pionero del “Nuevo Periodismo” pero me gustaron las cuestiones planteadas en (la película) La hoguera de las vanidades. Por sus respuestas en este reportaje, creo que debería existir un límite auto impuesto al gesto de “epater le bourgeoise”. Yo también estoy contra los abusos de lo Políticamente Correcto, pero burlarse de las posturas políticas de Noam Chomsky (como pseudo-intelectuales) y sostener que la inteligencia y la cultura de W. igualan a las del director de The New York Review of Books es demasiado.

Illo for an interview with the two writers (in small frames) of a book on this adviser of Raúl Alfonsín’s presidency (1983-89) dubbed “El Coti” (?) and also “The Black Monk”. With a style close to Karl Rove’s approach to Politics, Nosiglia was brilliant manipulating individuals and collecting power but short-sighted towards his Party and his Nation strategic interests in the long run.

Longtime the Mexican literature’s mandarin, Paz was a strong oppositor to western intellectuals’ concealing of Stalin’s crimes. In this old interview he told how almost reached actual fist fighting with Chilean poet Pablo Neruda because of an argument over that issue.

Por largo tiempo el mandarín de la literatura mejicana, Paz fue un fuerte opositor al ocultamiento por parte de los intelectuales occidentales de los crímenes de Stalin. En este antiguo reportaje contó cómo casi llegó a las piñas con el poeta chileno Pablo Neruda por una discusión sobre este tema.

In these sense Tony Blair acting after the London bombs (more a matter of lack of citizenship integration than one of foreign aggression) can be seen as a parody of Churchill.

Considerado un símbolo de la resolución británica de resistir la agresión extranjera, muchos han expresado dudas sobre la adecuación entre sus palabras y los hechos. En este sentido, la actuación de Tony Blair tras las bombas en Londres (más una cuestión de falta de integración ciudadana que de agresión extranjera) puede ser vista como una parodia de Churchill.

“The first Tango Singer and the first coup General (1930)”

Carlos Gardel rised from humble origins to become the most successful Tango singer until his death in a plane crash (1935). He is taken as a model even today. Despite he sang some lyrics of anarchistic feelings he ended as a supporter of the military coup of 1930 which settled the path for Argentinian longstanding political instability.

Carlos Gardel creció desde sus humildes orígenes para llegar a ser el más exitoso cantante de tango hasta su muerte en un accidente de aviación (1935). Es tomado como modelo incuso hoy en día. Aunqué cantó varios temas de sensibilidad anarquista, terminó apoyando el golpe militar de 1930 que inició el largo período de inestabilidad política en la Argentina.
