In August I had to illustrate an article about the controversial paper issued by these scholars critisizing the influence of the Israeli lobby on the American foreign policy.
As I was aware of the controversy development, it was clear for me that this episode was part of an intended effort by the old style conservatives to regain ground into the GOP. In line with Buchanan’s claims to abandon Rooseveltian intervensionism but in a neater-intellectual mood.
As for the question on how deep is the Israeli-Jewish-neocon influence I tend to think, like Chomsky, that it’s possible only as it’s beneficial to the interest of war-profiting corporative interests. No for the peace-seeking Israeli public as well as no for the Jewish or the American general public.

En Agosto tuve que ilustrar un artículo sobre el controversial documento de estos dos profesores criticando la innfluencia del lobby israelí en la política exterior norteamericana.

Como estuve al tanto del desarrollo de esta polémica, fue claro para mí que este episodio era parte de un esfuerzo de los conservadores de la vieja guardia por recuperar terreno dentro del Partido Republicano. En la línea del reclamo de Buchanan para abandonar el intervencionismo rooseveltiano pero con un estilo más pulcro.
Sobre la cuestión de cuán profunda es la influencia del núcleo israelí-judeo-neoconservador, tiendo a pensar, como Chomsky, que ella sólo es posible en tanto resulta beneficiosa para los intereses corporativos de los que ganan con la guerra. No para el público israelí ansioso de paz ni para el público judío y norteamericano en general.

Still in June I did this when the Chilean government was dealing with students’ protest and the violent riots caused by repression.

Todavía en Junio, hice éste cuando el gobierno chileno se enfrentaba a las protestas estudiantiles y las violentas refriegas causadas por la represión.

As I didn’t post for the last five months I’ll show now some of the outdated work.
In June I did this for an article on the Hawking’s Pope-like status on the public science stage.

Dado que no he posteado por los últimos cinco meses, muestro algunos trabajos hechos en este tiempo. En Junio hice éste para un artículo sobre el estilo papal que tiene Hawking en la escena científica pública.

This post has taken five months to be completed out from its inception. This is the story:
Fabián is (I refuse to use the past tense) my younger cousin, the son of the younger sister of my mother. He is also considered the best Argentinean moviemaker in many years (here and here). With just two movies (written and directed) in five years he got the first one (“Nine queens”) remade in the USA (“Criminal”) and the second (“The Aura”) chosen for the Oscar awards.
But Fabián is something else to me: more like the little brother I would wish to have. The one I remember attached to his blanket when a baby, laughing out load as I invented stories for him with his teddy bears, knocking me out at a dames game by age six. His movies were the offspring of the intelligence and deep human interest I knew from him throughout his life. He was my proud.
On June 26 “The Aura” was awarded by the Argentine Academy as the best movie of the past year. Three days later I was about to start with his portrait -as to express my joy- when the turned on TV news channel informed of his sudden death in a Brazilian hotel (where he was for a commercial job) while slipping. It was like a nightmare, and continued so all these months.
Of course, blogging lost its appeal for me. There was nothing I wanted to speak about before painting Fabián’s portrait and I was completely unable to do it until now. I don’t even know if it’s a good one because I wasn’t really painting his portrait, but the sorrow I feel moved onto his face.
Anyway, I needed to take these feelings out of my chest and move on. Or at least I hope so.

Este post tardó cinco meses en ser completado desde su concepción. Esto es lo que pasó:
Fabián es (me resisto a usar el pretérito) mi primo menor; el hijo de la hermana menor de mi madre. También es considerado el mejor cineasta argentino en mucho tiempo. Con sólo dos películas (escritas y dirigidas) en cinco años fue versionado por la primera (“Nueve Reinas”) en los Estados Unidos (“Criminal”) y elegido por la segunda (“El Aura”) para los premios Oscar.
Pero Fabián es algo diferente para mí: algo así como el hermanito que hubiera querido tener. El que recuerdo de bebé aferrado a su mantita, riendo a carcajadas con los cuentos que le inventaba con sus ositos, ganándome en el juego de damas a los seis años. Sus películas eran la creatura de la inteligencia y el profundo interés humano que le conocí de toda la vida. Él era mi orgullo.
El 26 de Junio “El Aura” fue premiada por la Academia argentina como la mejor película del año anterior. Tres días más tarde estaba por comenzar a dibujar su retrato para expresar mi alegría cuando la televisión, que estaba encendida en el canal de noticias, informo de su repentina muerte en un hotel de Brasil (donde estaba por un comercial) mientras dormía. Era como una pesadilla y continuó así todos estos meses.
Bloguear, por supuesto, perdió su atractivo para mí. No había nada de lo que quisiera hablar hasta haber pintado su retrato y me encontraba completamente incapacitado para hacerlo hasta hoy. Ni siquiera sé si es bueno, porque en realidad no estaba pintando su retrato sino la tristeza que siento trasladada a su rostro.
Como sea, necesitaba sacarme esos sentimientos de adentro y seguir adelante. Al menos, eso espero.
