Ezequiel Martínez Estrada was an Argentinean writer and essayist (died 1964) who’s skeptic sociological opinions on the future of his country -and even the entire civilization- have been quoted many times. This is an interview with the prologuist of the latest reprint of one of his furious “catilinaries” against JD Perón.

It is well known that Carlos Gardel, the great tango singer worshiped like a saint by many Argentines, was the impoverished son of a single French ironing woman. Ceferino Namuncurá was the son of the last great aboriginal chief defeated by General Roca and he went too worshiped like a popular saint-now in his way to be consecrated by Rome. This article recalls the time they where schoolmates at a religious boarding school and sung together at the school chorus.

Es bien sabido que Carlos Gardel, el gran cantante de tango reverenciado como un santo por muchos argentinos, fue el pobre hijo de una planchadora francesa soltera. Ceferino Namuncurá fue hijo del último gran cacique aborigen derrotado por el general Roca y también fue reverenciado como santo popular, ahora en camino de ser consagrado por Roma. Este artículo recuerda el tiempo en que fueron condiscípulos en un internado religioso y cantaron juntos en el coro de la escuela.
