Terragno-Yrigoyen
Founded by Hipólito Yrigoyen a century ago, the Radical Party (UCR-Unión Cívica Radical) has steadily dwindling since Alfonsín’s triumph in the 1983 elections that marked the recovery of Democracy in Argentina. Rodolfo Terragno joined the party later, when the government was struggling with the economy and social asphyxia. He tried to influx some modernizing ideas and languaje but never succeed in gather confidence from the party’s “nomenclatura”. While other leaders dropped out to build their own parties, he remained within, stubbornly supporting the “dead weight” of the old structures, showing a respectable but pathetic effort.
Fundado hace un siglo por Hipólito Yrigoyen, el Partido Radical (UCR-Unión Cívica Radical) ha venido apagándose consistentemente desde el triunfo de Alfonsín en 1983 que señalara la recuperación de la Democracia en Argentina. Rodolfo Terragno se unió al partido tarde, cuando el gobierno luchaba con la asfixia económica y social. Intentó inyectar algunas ideas y lenguaje modernizantes pero nunca pudo lograr la confianza de la burocracia partidaria. Mientras otros dirigentes se fueron para formar sus propios partidos, él permaneció adentro, sosteniendo tozudamente el “peso muerto” de las viejas estructuras, exhibiendo un esfuerzo respetable pero patético.
